GI MAP Stool Test

WHY TEST?

Testing allows us to screen for and identify pathogens in the microbiome that are causing imbalances within the digestive tract. Within these imbalances, we often see hormonal issues, “leaky gut” and digestive dysfunction, skin irritations such as psoriasis and eczema, mood issues and insomnia, inflammation, and brain disorders, etc.

WHAT MAKES THE GI MAP DIFFERENT FROM OTHER GUT MICROBIOME TESTS?

  • The GI MAP by Diagnostic Solutions is a single collection stool test that uses state of the art DNA analysis that allows us to assess both the health benefits and disease risk from various microorganisms that inhabit the body.

  • Unlike the traditional stool testing that you would receive through your regular physician which involves techniques such as microscopy or culturing (which also miss up to 50% of bacteria species and rarely detects parasites or yeast), the GI MAP uses quantitative PCR testing which is the most sensitive gene analysis technique available.

  • PCR testing can determine genotypes, detect pathogens and even provide prescriptive drug direction for certain positive markers.

functional markers included in a Gi map stool test

  • Elastase: a fecal marker for accessing exocrine pancreatic function.

  • Steatocrit: monitors fat digestion, biliary stasis or insufficiency as well as pancreatic lipase insufficiency.

  • Calprotectin: when elevated, indicates a high level of inflammation, also considered a gold standard for the diagnosing and monitoring of IBD.

  • Beta glucoronidase: an enzyme involved in Phase II conjugation liver pathways for the excretion of carcinogens, lipid-soluble hormones and steroid hormones.

  • Anti-gliadin: the presence of fecal anti-gliadin antibodies can indicate an inflammatory response to gluten.

  • Secretory IgA: this represents your gut army, your first line of defense to protect the intestinal epithelium against ingested toxins and pathogens.

common pathogens that we test for and how they impact the gut

  • H-Pylori: and virulence factors.

  • Pathogenic bacteria: Campylobacter, C. difficile Toxin A, Toxin B, E. coli, Shigella, Shiga-like Toxin E, Salmonella and more.

  • Parasites: Crytosporidium, Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia, Blastocystis hominis, Cyclospora, Endolimax, Entamoeba coli and more.

  • Fungi/yeast: Candida spp, Candida albicans, Geotrichum, Microsporidum, Rhodotorula spp.

Comprehensive Blood Panel

Functional blood chemistry analysis involves looking at patterns and trends that are typically found in various manifestations of dysfunction or disease and not just individual markers. This can then provide insights into what is the true “driver” behind the dysfunction or symptom presentation instead of using medications to suppress or “cover up” what the body is trying to tell us - therefore allowing us to address dysfunction before it leads to chronic disease.

COMPREHENSIVE TESTING SO THAT WE GET THE INFORMATION THAT WE NEED:

  • Blood sugar handling

  • Cardiovascular health

  • Red Blood Cell’s and Anemia’s

  • Nutritional deficiencies

  • Liver and Gallbladder health

  • Thyroid health

  • Kidney health

  • Detoxification markers

  • Drivers of inflammation

  • and much more!

Functional blood chemistry ranges are based on a healthy population.

Conventional lab ranges only look for an advanced state of pathology, whereas functional lab ranges are designed to identify imbalances before they become a pathology. Furthermore, relying on conventional lab ranges might actually drive pathology as often times beginning stages of disease states are simply ignored.

This is a custom comprehensive blood panel through Lab Corp that includes:

  • Complete CBC with differential

  • Comprehensive Metabolic panel

  • C-Reactive Protein and HS CRP

  • GGT

  • Hemoglobin A1c with eAG, Insulin and Lactic Acid Dehydrogenase LD/LDH

  • Homocysteine

  • Insulin

  • Full Iron panel: Total Iron, TIBC, Saturation + Ferritin

  • Full Lipid Panel + VLDL + TC/HDL Ratio + LDL/HDL Ratio + CHD risk

  • Magnesium, Phosphorus, Copper and Zinc

  • Full Thyroid panel: TSH, Total T3, Total T4, Free T3 + T4, Reverse T3, TPO Antibodies & TGB Antibodies.

  • Uric Acid

  • Vitamin, 25-Hydroxy

  • Apolipoprotein Assessment

MRT Food Sensitivity Testing

Food hypersensitivities can play a role in IBS, migraines, fibromyalgia, autism, asthma, ADD/ADHD, arthritis, obesity, eczema, Crohn’s… and the list goes on and on. In order to effectively bring about healing, it is critical that we address any and all sources of ongoing inflammation.

What is the mRT food sensitivity test?

The MRT is a blood test that looks at 170 different foods/food chemicals. This test measures the mediators released from the white blood cells. Mediators involved could be cytokines, histamines, leukotrienes, prostaglandins, etc, released from neutrophils, monocytes, eosinophils and lymphocytes. It is this immune response that leads to the many chronic symptoms experienced.

What makes the MRT FOOD SENSITIVITY TEST different from other food sensitivity tests?

Traditional food sensitivity tests only measure IgG responses and do not measure IgM or complement driven food reactions, neither do they test for Type 4 sensitivities. Also, since IgG reactions can be both protective and pathogenic, high IgG isn’t necessarily a bad thing. In fact, studies have shown that in the case of IBS and migraines, IgG food sensitivities are usually not the cause and so we would be missing what is causing these reactions all together. IgG testing also does not measure reactions to chemicals which create a significant disadvantage since many health conditions such as ADHD, migraines and other neurological reactions are caused by certain chemicals in the diet. Also, in order for the food reaction to be measured, you would have had to have consumed the food 21 days prior to testing.

MRT testing measures Type 4 sensitivities. It looks at whether mediators were released at all. So in other words, when a persons white blood cells are injected with a particular substance (food or chemical), is there an immune response? This is the information that we want to know!

Organic Acids Test (OAT Profile)

WHY TEST?

The organic acids test provides an in-depth view into a persons metabolic health with over 76 markers. Organic acids are metabolic intermediates that are produced in pathways of central energy production, detoxification, neurotransmitter breakdown or intestinal microbial activity. Marked accumulation of specific organic acids detected in urine often signals a metabolic inhibition or block. The metabolic block may be due to a nutrient deficiency, an inherited enzyme deficit, toxic build-up or drug effect. Several of the metabolite biomarkers are markers of intestinal bacteria or yeast overgrowth.

The Organic acids test (OAt profile) is valuable for determining:

  • Intestinal Microbial Overgrowth

  • Oxalate Metabolism

  • Glycolytic Cell Metabolism

  • Mitochondrial Markers - Krebs Cell Metabolites

  • Mitochondrial Markers - Amino Acid Metabolites

  • Neurotransmitter Metabolites

  • Folate Metabolism

  • Ketone and Fatty Acid Metabolism

  • Indicators of Detoxification

  • Mineral Metabolism

  • Lipoid Acid and CoQ10 status

  • Methylation sufficiency and more…
